Focusing on Jesus, Instead of Miracles
Do miracles still happen today? Adrian Rogers discusses this question in his book Believe in Miracles, But Trust in Jesus.
In this book, he looks at the seven miracles of Jesus that are recorded in the Gospel of John: turning water into wine, healing a nobleman’s son, healing the invalid at the pool of Bethesda, feeding the five thousand, walking on water, opening the eyes of a man born blind, and raising Lazarus from the dead. John included them so that people would know that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that they would believe in Him.
Adrian Rogers states that miracles still happen today, but our primary focus should be on getting to know Jesus rather than on whether God answers our prayers with a miracle. As Dr. Rogers says, “Strong faith, true faith, is the response of the heart and the soul to the character and nature of Christ. It does not demand signs.”
Practical steps to follow are included at the end of most chapters. Dr. Rogers also explains the greatest miracle that God does: the salvation of a soul.
I like reading Adrian Rogers’s books. He had a unique way of saying things that make spiritual truths clear, for example, “You may be too big for God to use, but you’ll never be too small for God to use,” and “Faith, like film, is developed best in the dark.”
God called Adrian Rogers home in 2005, but Dr. Rogers’s ministry is still active. You can learn more at https://www.lwf.org.
