A Hymn for Every Day of the Year

My mother instilled in me a love of hymns. A Song in My Heart by Robert J. Morgan is a daily devotional that features 366 hymns. Each day of the year focuses on one hymn. Every devotion has a brief paragraph explaining who wrote the hymn and the circumstances under which the hymn was written. The words of the hymn are given, and a corresponding Bible verse is quoted.

Hymns have spiritual truth and doctrine in them. Some of the hymns in this book I am familiar with and some I am not. As I read the words, they speak to my spirit. I have looked up videos online to hear people singing the hymns that I didn’t know. That is a great blessing.

Often, we may sing the hymns and not pay attention to the words. Reading the words without the music helps us focus on the words and their truth. The melody may come to mind as you read the words.
