Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Biblical Feasts, Pointing to the Messiah

Gentile Christians sometimes miss the significance of passages in the Bible because we aren’t familiar with Hebrew culture. A case in point is the biblical feasts that God instructs Moses about in Leviticus 23.

The book Celebrating Jesus in the Biblical Feasts shows how the various feasts throughout the Jewish year point to Jesus, the Messiah. By celebrating the feasts, the Hebrew people were to understand about our relationship and walk with God. The author shows how Jesus fulfilled the feasts and how we can apply them to our lives.

Dr. Richard Booker is the Founder and Director of the Institute for Hebraic-Christian Studies. His goal is to help Christians understand the Hebrew culture. He explains the Jewish Calendar and gives a good understanding of the Jewish year, tying the feasts in with the different harvests

In Leviticus 23, God speaks to Moses about the weekly Sabbath and the seven feasts throughout the year that were “a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.” These “days of rest” did not always fall on a weekly Sabbath.

I learned a lot from this book. When the gospels say that Jesus attended a certain feast, I had never given much thought to the significance of what Jesus did and said at that time. For example, I understand how Jesus is our Passover lamb. But it was also at the Feast of Passover, when the twelve-year-old Jesus was left in Jerusalem and his parents returned and found him in the temple talking with the teachers of the law.

This book is perfect for anyone who wants to understand how the biblical feasts point to Jesus, the Messiah. I highly recommend it.
