Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

The Model for Our Conversations with God

Would you like an in-depth study of the Lord’s Prayer? Look no further than When We Say Father by Adrian Rogers.

It is always a pleasure to read one of Adrian Rogers’s books. This one on the Lord’s Prayer is exceptionally good. We are so familiar with this prayer that we might not pay attention to the words and meaning as we recite it. However, Pastor Rogers reminds us that “prayer is talking with God, not at God.” Jesus wanted this prayer to be used as a model for our conversations with God.

Dr. Rogers breaks down each phrase of the prayer, explaining it in his own unique style. He has a way of expressing things that gets right to the point and makes you think. For example, when he discusses that God should have preeminence in our lives, he says, “His throne is not a duplex.”

Here is another quote from the book to illustrate his style of writing: “There is nothing so empty as a self-centered life. There is nothing so centered as a self-emptied life.”

There is a concluding chapter on Matthew 7:7. Pastor Rogers explains what it means to ask, to seek, and to knock.

This book is the kind you will want to read more than once. I highly recommend it.
