Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Jonah and the God Who Shows Mercy

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is about Jonah, but there is a lot more to the story than just a man being swallowed by a great fish.

Based on sermons by Timothy Keller, Rediscovering Jonah takes us in-depth into the lessons that the book of Jonah teaches. Mr. Keller discusses a few verses at a time and offers great insight and wisdom into issues that are very appropriate to our time.

Reading this book helped me see the many connections that the book of Jonah has with the New Testament. I had not thought about the fact that Jonah has the same attitudes as the two sons in the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The younger son left his father and home and went his own way, just as Jonah tried to run away from God. The older son was not happy with his brother’s return and repentance, and Jonah wasn’t happy that the Ninevites had repented.

Timothy Keller uses Scripture to answer the many questions that the book of Jonah raises, for example, how should we treat others who are different from us? How can a loving God forgive sins and yet be a just God? Where is the balance between mercy and justice?

I learned a lot from Rediscovering Jonah. This book will make you examine your life and your attitudes. I know it will be a blessing to you.
