Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Explore the Hidden Meanings of Christmas

Hidden Christmas is a wonderful book. Timothy Keller discusses the Scripture passages about Jesus’s birth from Matthew, Luke, Isaiah, and 1 John. He addresses aspects of the Christmas story that I had not thought of and gives practical applications.

This book sharpens our focus on what Christmas really means: Almighty God took human form, being born to live a sinless life and die for the sins of the whole world. It is a call to faith and obedience, submitting to God’s will for your life, because Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The author shares a personal experience of a Christian conference that he attended. The speaker asked them to take thirty minutes and write down thirty things that they learn from Mark 1:17. At first, he found it hard, but as the minutes went by, he discovered more and more insights to write down. At the end of thirty minutes, the speaker had them circle the most insightful thought that had come to them. Then, she asked them to raise their hands if they found it in the first five minutes, . . . ten minutes, . . . fifteen minutes, etc. Most of the people had discovered the life-changing thing closer to the end of the thirty minutes. This changed the author’s prospective on studying scripture. We need to take the time to really dig deep into God’s Word.

This book was a blessing to me, and I know it will be to you too. It is not a new book, but it is a book that you are going to want to reread each year.
