Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Why Jesus's Resurrection Gives Us Hope

Hope in Times of Fear by Timothy Keller discusses the resurrection of Jesus Christ and what it means to us today. It is a companion book to Keller’s Hidden Christmas.

Mr. Keller begins by citing the evidence that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead and why that is important to us. Christ’s resurrection secures our victory over sin and death and gives us hope now and in the future. I especially liked the two practical illustrations of how Jesus’s resurrection confirms that our debt was paid in full.

The author discusses the theme of the “Great Reversal,” which runs throughout the Bible. God does the opposite of what humans would do. He uses the weak, lowly, and despised instead of the strong and prominent to accomplish His purposes. Mr. Keller references many of the stories in the Bible to illustrate his points.

The resurrection of Jesus impacts our lives and gives us hope in these troubled times. Timothy Keller discusses the social issues that we face and how we should approach them in the light of Christ’s resurrection.

This book is well worth reading. Even during the slow sections (for me, that was when the author talks about the different philosophies of the past and present), the reader can benefit from Mr. Keller’s wisdom and insight. He effectively explains how, because Jesus is alive and not still dead in the grave, our faith and hope in God sustains us today as we wait for Jesus to return and put all things right. I highly recommend it.
